CG Shepherd Realty, LLC continues to collect coats year-round to be distributed to those in need in Newport, NH and the Upper Valley.
More coats are needed, especially extra-large. After many deliveries, the Newport soup
kitchen had run out of coats. They came out to Grantham to get the ones we have here last week.
Do you have gently-used coats? Drop off coats at our Grantham office, in our coat collections can, or in one of our Shepherd Realty Smart Cars when you see them parked around town. We'll get them to Newport to be distributed accordingly.
Thank you all for your tremendous support! It is greatly needed during this time of year.

The Eastman NH community is holding its first Loppet for David's House on February 11, 2012. "'Lopp' is the Swedish word for 'race,' in this case a ski race" (Eastman NH News). This all-day event is a great opportunity to ski and snowshoe on groomed trails and promises fun for all ages. If you've already pre-registered to participate, here is the most recent update on the logistics for the event provided by David's House:
o Lack of snow on the Eastman cross country trails will mean the skiing portion will not take place at Eastman XC.
o Eastman does have enough snow in the woods to safely snowshoe so the snow shoe portion of the event will move forward. Eastman will provide free use of snowshoes.
o Individuals who signed up to ski have the option to snowshoe at Eastman or if they would like to ski, can ski free on Feb.11 at Trapp Family Lodge, Bretton Woods Nordic Center or The Jackson Ski Touring Center. This fantastic offer by these establishments will be honored only if participants have pre-registered online before midnight on Feb.9 (TONIGHT) and met the pledge minimums online. If participants have registered by paper we (Eastman) need to have the registration and pledges in hand by midnight on Thursday. Feb.9. Eastman will supply each establishment with a roster of participants who met the minimum so they can be checked in.
o Plenty of food and great entertainment from 11am-4pm, so we want to encourage anyone to come down, make a donation of and enjoy the food and music. Event organizers are encouraging a $10 donation at the door for adults and $5 for a child. Entertainment participants don’t have to ski or snowshoe.

With the housing market on the upswing in New England, now is a great time to buy houses in Grantham, NH. The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) has launched its Public Awareness Campaign entitled "Home Ownership Matters". This campaign focuses on the benefits home ownership provides to individuals and America as a whole.
A recent NAR survey by Harris Interactive shows that "home owners and renters agree that home ownership benefits individuals and families, strengthens our communities, and is integral to our nation's economy" (National Association of Realtors®. American Attitudes About Home Ownership. www.Realtor.org). Even in today's economy, there is value to owning a home. The benefits are not only social, but also financial. The vast majority of both homeowners and renters surveyed believe "over a period of several years, it makes more sense to own a home," and agreed, "owning a home is a smart decision over the long term" (National Association of Realtors®. Owners, Renters Agree: Owning a Home is a Smart Decision. 19 January 2011. http://www.realtor.org/press_room
/news_releases/2011/01/owning_home). Owning a home can contribute to financial stability through home equity, and Research Economist Danielle Hale says homeowner equity is a significant component of homeowner wealth. "In the past 12 years, the net worth of the typical home owner has ranged between 31 and 46 times that of the net worth of the typical renter" (Hale, Danielle. Did You Know: Net Worth, Home Owners vs. Renters. 16 November 2010. http://www.realtor.org/research/economists_outlook/didyouknow/dyk111610dh).
If you're hesitant about taking that step to own your own home, maybe these survey results will put your mind at ease: "An overwhelming majority of homeowners are happy with their decision to own a home and 93% would buy again…and most renters aspire to home ownership" (National Association of Realtors®. American Attitudes About Home Ownership. www.Realtor.org). So, if you think you're ready to reap the benefits of home ownership, talk to your local real estate professional about your options.
